Three-wheeler auto-rickshaws are a major part of public transportation in developing countries like India, with a transition to electric autorickshaws reducing emissions and benefiting the national economy. Choosing the right motor for electric vehicles requires consideration of performance, operating conditions, and cost.
Three-wheeler auto-rickshaws form a major part of the public transportation sector in developing countries like India, as they provide cost-effective and convenient mobility. Switching to electric autorickshaws will significantly reduce emissions besides being cost-effective. Also in contrast to the gas powered vehicles, electric auto rickshaws for public transport aid a big aid to the national economy by benefitting the power grids, PSUs & customers. The central feature for an E-auto rickshaw besides batteries that replaces an IC engine is an electric motor. The rapid advancement of power electronics and respective control technology has created a room in which various types of electric motors can be used for Electric Vehicles (EV). For choosing a right motor for an electric vehicle, one has to primarily consider the performance, operating conditions, efficiency, relative costs and so on. For Electric vehicles like three wheel auto rickshaws covering short-range driving cycle, a low-weight, high power density, and affordable motor must be conceptualized in terms of their functionality and economic feasibility from the Indian context. The ultimate intent of this present research work is to identify the characteristics for a range of motors and to determine their attributes that are optimal suited for large-scale deployment of electric auto-rickshaws in the Indian transport scenario.
