Experimental study ofPLAthermal behavior during fused filament fabrication

Summary: Fused filament fabrication (FFF) is an additive manufacturing technique used for producing prototypes and final products. Experimental measurements of filament temperature during deposition were compared to a model, showing good agreement, especially regarding reheating peaks when new filaments are deposited. The developed experimental technique demonstrates sensitivity to changing operating conditions and can help predict bond quality in FFF parts more accurately.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of Additive Manufacturing parameters on the Mode I fracture toughness of polymer bonded joints. The experimental results show that process parameters have a significant effect on fracture toughness and an optimum value can be identified through the AM setup.

Appraisal of surface preparation in adhesive bonding of additive manufactured substrates

M. Frascio et al.

Summary: This study compares the effects of different surface pre-treatment methods on adhesively bonded 3D printed ABS adherends obtained using FFF. It was found that the low-pressure plasma (LPP) treatment significantly improved the wetting and joint strength of ABS substrates, shifting the failure mechanism from adhesive failure to cohesive failure. The choice of adhesive material also played a crucial role in enhancing the joint strength.
