Hydrodynamic cavitation coupled with thermal treatment for reducing counts of B. coagulans in skim milk concentrate

Jae Young Sim et al.

Summary: This study developed a method combining hydrodynamic cavitation and thermal treatment to reduce the count of B. coagulans in skim milk concentrate. The combined cavitation-thermal treatment resulted in a significant reduction compared to thermal treatment alone, while individual cavitation did not produce a significant decrease. The reduction time at 75 degrees Celsius was lower when cavitation was followed by thermal treatment, indicating better effectiveness of the combined treatment.

Recent advances in the removal of pharmaceuticals and endocrine-disrupting compounds in the aquatic system: A case of polymer inclusion membranes

Ayo Olasupo et al.

Summary: The presence of pharmaceuticals and endocrine-disrupting compounds in aquatic systems has raised concerns due to their potential threats to aquatic organisms and human health. Conventional wastewater treatment plants have limitations in removing these contaminants, leading to the exploration of advanced treatment processes. Polymer inclusion membranes (PIMs) are considered a promising technology for water treatment, with high efficiency in removing contaminants from water.

Degradation of ciprofloxacin by photocatalytic ozonation process under irradiation with UVA: Comparative study, performance and mechanism

Esrafil Asgari et al.

Summary: The study investigated the photocatalytic ozonation process for the removal of ciprofloxacin antibiotic from aqueous solutions. Various operational factors were studied, and the catalyst was characterized using multiple techniques. The results showed that the process was effective in removing pollutants and the catalyst retained about 95% efficiency after 6 recycling steps.

Degradation of norfloxacin in aqueous solution using hydrodynamic cavitation: Optimization of geometric and operation parameters and investigations on mechanism

Ludong Yi et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of different geometric parameters of orifice plates on the degradation of norfloxacin by hydrodynamic cavitation, along with discussing the impact of various operating parameters. The mechanism of degradation was explored through trapping experiments and TOC analysis, while the efficiency was further enhanced by using HC combined with oxidants. LC-MS results revealed the degradation of norfloxacin into low molecular weight organic compounds and further oxidation into CO2 and H2O during the HC process.
