A novel peroxymonosulfate activation process by periclase for efficient singlet oxygen-mediated degradation of organic pollutants

Lingshuai Kong et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the excellent catalytic performance of MgO as a PMS activator for degrading organic contaminants, with a focus on the degradation of BPA. Singlet oxygen was identified as the main reactive species in the PMS/MgO system. Additionally, MgO showed minimal impact on anions and humic acid commonly found in environmental matrices.

Removal of bisphenol A from acidic sulfate medium and urban wastewater using persulfate activated with electroregenerated Fe2+

Alexsandro Jhones dos Santos et al.

Summary: Model solutions of BPA in 0.050 M Na2SO4 at pH 3.0 were treated using the electro/Fe2+/persulfate process, resulting in successful degradation and mineralization. The use of carbon felt as cathode outperformed stainless steel, and the decay of BPA concentration followed pseudo-first-order kinetics.

New insights of metal free 2D graphitic carbon nitride for photocatalytic degradation of bisphenol A

Rama Shanker Sahu et al.

Summary: The polymeric oxygen-rich exfoliated graphitic carbon nitride (EGCN) synthesized by acid treatment of bulk GCN showed high valence band hole transfer under short-time visible light exposure for efficient photocatalytic mineralization of bisphenol A (BPA). The enhanced BPA removal was achieved by EGCN due to the formation of OH radicals, and factors affecting BPA degradation were optimized. The as-synthesized metal-free active under visible light EGCN offers a new platform for complete mineralization of byproducts of halogenated organic contaminants.

Teng Bao et al.

Summary: In this study, a magnetic illite clay-composite material (Fe3O4@illite) was synthesized by loading Fe3O4 nanoparticles onto the surfaces of illite clay, which showed superior performance in degrading Bisphenol A (BPA) compared to nano-Fe3O4. The Fe3O4@illite composite achieved high degradation capacity for BPA in different water sources, indicating its potential as a promising method for pollutant remediation.

Efficient removal of bisphenol A with activation of peroxydisulfate via electrochemically assisted Fe(III)-nitrilotriacetic acid system under neutral condition

Liangliang Xiong et al.

Summary: An innovative electrochemically assisted Fe(III)-NTA/PDS system was proposed for the removal of BPA at neutral pH with efficient decay mainly originating from the continuous activation of PDS by Fe(II) reduced from Fe(III)-NTA complexes. BPA removal occurred mainly through graphite adsorption, direct electron transfer (DET) and radical oxidation, with sulfate and hydroxyl radicals primarily responsible for the oxidation of BPA.

Activation of peroxodisulfate and peroxymonosulfate by ultrasound with different frequencies: Impact on ibuprofen removal efficient, cost estimation and energy analysis

Yonghyeon Lee et al.

Summary: This study investigated the degradation efficiency of ibuprofen using different advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) with peroxodisulfate (PDS), peroxymonosulfate (PMS), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) at various ultrasonic frequencies. Results showed that PDS and PMS had the highest activation efficiency at a frequency of 1000 kHz, with PDS being more effective than PMS. Additionally, an increase in pH during IBP decomposition resulted in a decrease in the IBP reaction rate constant.
