Dynamic volumetric hyperpolarized13C imaging with multi-echo EPI

Kofi Deh et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that IDEAL decomposition of multishot multiecho 13C EPI images is a simple and robust method for generating high-quality dynamic volumetric maps of hyperpolarized [1-C-13]pyruvate and its products in vivo. This method has potential applications for assessing multiorgan metabolic phenomena.

Comparing Stable Isotope Enrichment by Gas Chromatography with Time-of-Flight, Quadrupole Time-of-Flight, and Quadrupole Mass Spectrometry

Ying Zhang et al.

Summary: Stable isotope tracers are commonly used with gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry for enzyme activity and metabolic pathway studies. In this research, three commercially available instruments were used to analyze samples from a stable isotope labeling study on Rothia mucilaginosa metabolism. The study found that all three GC-MS instruments can be used for stable isotope tracing studies, with high-resolution GC-QTOF MS offering additional capabilities in identifying the chemical structures of unknown compounds.

The Source of Glycolytic Intermediates in Mammalian Tissues

Tara TeSlaa et al.

Summary: Glycolysis is central to organismal metabolism, with circulating glucose and intracellular glycogen being the main sources of glycolytic intermediates. Gluconeogenesis also contributes to glycolysis to a lesser extent. Different tissues show variations in utilizing circulating glucose for glycolysis, with most tissues relying on glycogen breakdown for glycolytic intermediates. Overall, the body slowly breaks down internal glycogen stores while select tissues rapidly catabolize circulating glucose for oxidation.
