Quantum delocalization, gauge, and quantum optics: Light-matter interaction in relativistic quantum information

Richard Lopp et al.

Summary: This paper reexamines the interaction between a first-quantized atomic system and the quantum electromagnetic field, highlighting the subtleties related to the gauge nature of electromagnetism and the effect of multipole approximations. It connects the full minimal-coupling model with effective models used in quantum optics and relativistic quantum information, and discusses the necessity of refining effective models to capture the features of light-matter interaction in different regimes. Additionally, it demonstrates how effective dipole interaction models can be covariantly prescribed for relativistically moving atoms.
