Moire Surface States and Enhanced Superconductivity in Topological Insulators

Taige Wang et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that moire superlattices have significant effects on the topological surface states of topological insulators, leading to divergent density of states and enhanced interaction effects. Due to spin-momentum locking, the possible interaction channels in moire surface states are limited, but superconductivity is strongly enhanced by phonon mediated attraction. This enhancement is robust under various perturbations from high-order van Hove singularities.

Twisted bilayer graphene. II. Stable symmetry anomaly

Zhi-Da Song et al.

Summary: The continuous model of twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) is shown to be anomalous and incompatible with lattice models, with numerical confirmation of an approximate particle-hole symmetry and stable topology. This stable topology implies the existence of 4l + 2 Dirac points, protected against arbitrary gap closings, and cannot be realized in lattice models that preserve both C2zT and P symmetries. Additionally, other topology related topics and their implications for interacting TBG problems are discussed.

Moire superlattice on the surface of a topological insulator

Jennifer Cano et al.

Summary: Twisting van der Waals heterostructures to induce correlated many body states provides a novel tuning mechanism in solid state physics. Our theoretical investigation on the fate of the surface Dirac cone of a three-dimensional topological insulator subject to a superlattice potential reveals a dramatic renormalization of the surface Dirac cone velocity, as well as the emergence of additional satellite Dirac cones due to the topological nature of the bulk. These findings have implications for future experiments.

Measuring local moire lattice heterogeneity of twisted bilayer graphene

Tjerk Benschop et al.

Summary: A new method is introduced to continuously map inhomogeneities of a moire lattice on twisted bilayer graphene (TBG) and it is found that the variation in twist angle has a significant effect on the electronic structure.
