Black metal hydrogen above 360 GPa driven by proton quantum fluctuations

Lorenzo Monacelli et al.

Summary: Numerical calculations considering the quantum fluctuations of protons under high pressure explain the optical properties of hydrogen, with hydrogen metallization predicted to occur at 380 GPa in phase III. Replacing hydrogen with deuterium is expected to substantially increase the conductivity and optical gap, emphasizing the isotope dependence of metallization driven by quantum fluctuations.

van der Waals driven anharmonic melting of the 3D charge density wave in VSe2

Josu Diego et al.

Summary: The transition in VSe2 is mainly driven by electron-phonon interactions, despite the presence of Fermi-surface nesting, and van der Waals forces are responsible for melting of the charge density wave order.

Time-dependent self-consistent harmonic approximation: Anharmonic nuclear quantum dynamics and time correlation functions

Lorenzo Monacelli et al.

Summary: This study introduces an approximate theory for the quantum time evolution of lattice vibrations at finite temperature, which introduces time dynamics in the self-consistent harmonic approximation with the same computational cost as the static case. By deriving an algorithm to efficiently compute quantum dynamical response functions, the study enables the simulation of phonon spectra without the need for perturbative expansions of the nuclear potential or empirical methods.
