Ternary metallic CuxCo1-xPtyO/RGO catalyst with internal synergistic effect for efficient hydrolysis of ammonia-borane

Jiabin Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, a CuxCo1-xPtyO/RGO catalyst composite was prepared for the hydrolysis of ammonia borane, exhibiting high catalytic activity. The metallic Pt in the catalyst was identified as the true catalytic center, while Co acted as an electron donor to form Co-Pt bonds. Cu contributed to the stability of the catalyst, and RGO as a support facilitated charge transfer and particle dispersion.

Ultrafine PtCo Alloy Nanoclusters Confined in N-Doped Mesoporous Carbon Spheres for Efficient Ammonia Borane Hydrolysis

Linxin Yin et al.

Summary: This study successfully developed a series of ultrafine PtxCo1-x alloy nanoclusters anchored in N-doped mesoporous carbon spheres (N-MCSs) using an enhanced strong electrostatic adsorption (SEA) strategy, showing superior catalytic performance for efficient ammonia borane (AB) hydrolysis. The optimal catalyst Pt0.33Co0.67/N-MCSs exhibited excellent performance with a high specific rate. Mechanistic studies revealed that O-H cleavage of H2O molecules is the rate-determine step in the AB hydrolysis reaction, providing insights for the rational design of cost-effective catalysts.

Summary: A simple method to prepare oxygen-rich porous nitrogen-doped carbon materials has been developed, which can be used as efficient catalyst support materials for depositing metal nanoparticles. The porous carbon material not only facilitates the synthesis of nanoparticle catalysts and enhances reaction activity, but also improves the diffusion rate of reactants and avoids mass transfer limitations.
