Online Live-Stream Broadcasting of the Holy Mass during the COVID-19 Pandemic in Poland as an Example of the Mediatisation of Religion: Empirical Studies in the Field of Mass Media Studies and Pastoral Theology

Summary: The study aimed to understand the scale and nature of transmitting Holy Mass online by parishes of the Roman Catholic Church in Poland in spring 2020. Results showed that 40.8% of Polish parishes conducted online Mass broadcasts, with YouTube (18.9%) and Facebook (18.7%) being the main sources of broadcast signal. There was a significant correlation between online Mass broadcasting and the region of Poland, as well as higher average broadcast percentages in dioceses where parish priests were encouraged to broadcast.
