Vibrational exciton delocalization precludes the use of infrared intensities as proxies for surfactant accumulation on aqueous surfaces

Kimberly A. Carter-Fenk et al.

Summary: This study investigates the vibrational coupling phenomenon of surfactant molecules at interfaces, demonstrating the emergence of vibrational excitons in infrared reflection-absorption spectra through a combination of experiment and theory. The ionic composition of the aqueous phase can impact the intermolecular distance of surfactant molecules, thereby modulating the strength of vibrational coupling between surfactants.
