Summary: The study focuses on the development of solid-state materials with reversible photochromic properties. Four structurally simple spiropyran derivatives were prepared and demonstrated excellent reversible photochromism under solvent-free conditions. In addition, these compounds exhibited mechanochromic properties and maintained their color under visible light, allowing for at least 30 consecutive print-erase cycles without fatigue. The excellent solid-state photochromic properties offer potential applications in UV printing and rewritable paper.
