Summary: The study quantitatively investigated the photochemistry of Fe(III) coordinated to natural uronate-containing polysaccharides, revealing the generation of CO2 center dot- radical species and the possible occurrence of carboxylate bond cleavage and oxidative decarboxylation with Fe(II) generation leading to degradation of the polyuronic acid chain.
