Towards a new mobility concept for regional trains and hydrogen infrastructure

F. Piraino et al.

Summary: The research demonstrates the feasibility and benefits of the hydrogen hybrid fuel cell train system in terms of energy performance and economics, with a fuel cell efficiency exceeding 47% and a facility efficiency over 50%. The financial analysis shows attractive financial indicators such as a levelized cost of hydrogen of around $8/kg, a total cost of ownership of approximately $12/km, and a return on investment of almost 19%.

Vanadium Cluster Neutrals Reacting with Water: Superatomic Features and Hydrogen Evolution in a Fishing Mode

Hanyu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study investigates cluster reactions of vanadium with water in a gas-phase flow tube reactor, revealing effective hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) of V-n (n >= 3) clusters and highlighting superatomic features and reaction dynamics of V-10, V-13, and V-16. The research clarifies the availability of superatom chemistry for transition metals and provides insights into the HER mechanism of metal clusters, suggesting further development of cluster theory based on electronic cloud/orbital analysis.

Getting Ready for the Hydrogen Evolution Reaction: The Infrared Spectrum of Hydrated Aluminum Hydride-Hydroxide HAlOH+(H2O)n-1, n=9-14

Jakob Heller et al.

Summary: Infrared multiple photon spectroscopy was used to probe the structure of hydrated singly charged aluminum ions. The Al-H vibration frequency is highly sensitive to the hydrogen bonding network, and the hydride can act as a double hydrogen bond acceptor. The onset of hydrogen bonding and disappearance of the free Al-H stretch coincides with the onset of hydrogen evolution.

Spectroscopy and photochemistry of copper nitrate clusters

Tobias F. Pascher et al.

Summary: Investigating copper nitrate cluster anions Cu(ii)(n)(NO3)(2n+1)(-) in the gas phase using UV/vis/NIR spectroscopy provides insights into their electronic structure and intriguing photochemistry. These clusters predominantly decompose by loss of neutral copper nitrate or a neutral NO3 ligand, with direct competition observed for the smallest cluster. Population of pi* orbitals in nitrate ligands may lead to N-O bond photolysis, with observed photochemical loss of nitrogen dioxide or an oxygen atom in the UV region.
