Molecular Cages Self-Assembled by Imine Condensation in Water

Summary: Self-assembly of basket-shaped triscationic cage molecules in aqueous media and organic solvent is achieved by condensing hexaformyl and bisamine, with stable chiral cages exhibiting no decomposition when exposed to water-compatible conditions. The chiral cage S-2(3+) selectively binds and distinguishes enantiomers, offering opportunities for chiral compound separation. Chiral narcissistic self-sorting and sergeants-and-soldiers effects occur during cage formation with amino precursors.
