Olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19): a review of current evidence

Esmaeil Mehraeen et al.

Summary: Studies have shown a significant increase in olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions during the COVID-19 epidemic. Most studies (95.8%) have confirmed symptoms of anosmia in patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection, along with evidence of ageusia and dysgeusia in patients with COVID-19. The findings support reports that SARS-CoV-2 may infect oral and nasal tissues, leading to olfactory and gustatory dysfunctions.

The clinical outcomes of COVID-19 in HIV-positive patients: A systematic review of current evidence

SeyedAhmad SeyedAlinaghi et al.

Summary: This systematic review of 36 studies found that most HIV patients infected with COVID-19 recovered fully, with those at advanced stages of the disease and low CD4 counts showing milder symptoms. Additionally, interference can reduce immune reactions and cytokine storms, leading to less severe symptoms in HIV patients.

Evaluation of the effectiveness and safety of adding ivermectin to treatment in severe COVID-19 patients

Nurullah Okumus et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the presence of gene mutations affecting ivermectin metabolism in patients with severe COVID-19 pneumonia, and evaluate the effectiveness and safety of ivermectin treatment. Clinical improvement rate was higher in the ivermectin group compared to the control group after 5 days of treatment. Ivermectin showed potential in increasing clinical recovery and improving prognostic laboratory parameters in severe COVID-19 patients, suggesting it could be considered as an alternative treatment option.

Airborne transmission of COVID-19 and the role of face mask to prevent it: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Seyed-Amir Tabatabaeizadeh

Summary: This meta-analysis of four articles involving 7688 participants showed a significant reduction in COVID-19 infection risk with the use of face masks, indicating an association between face mask use and COVID-19 reduction. However, the primary spread of COVID-19 is through contact routes and respiratory droplets, and there is still controversy and mysteries surrounding the airborne transmission of COVID-19.
