Floquet-Dirac fermions in monolayer graphene by Wannier functions

Jian Liu et al.

Summary: Wannier functions are widely used in studying the topological properties and Floquet-Bloch bands of materials. This research compares the performance of real-space Wannier functions through lattice-gauge FT and atomic-gauge FT on Floquet-Bloch bands, using monolayer graphene as an example, and introduces the atomic-laser periodic effect to explain the differences in topological descriptions. Through atomic-gauge FT, it is shown that linearly polarized laser can effectively manipulate the properties of Dirac fermions in graphene, such as the location, generation, and annihilation of Dirac points.

Optical analog of valley Hall effect 2D excitons in hyperbolic metamaterial

Sriram Guddala et al.

Summary: The robust spin and momentum valley locking of electrons in two-dimensional semiconductors allow for great utility in functional optoelectronic devices. The difference in optical selection rules for different valleys enables optical addressing of valley electrons, showcasing valley Hall effect behavior. The demonstration of optical valley Hall effect with bulk artificial photonic media without nanostructuring opens up possibilities for valley-based excitonic circuits operating at room temperature.
