Superhydrophobic Poly(L-lactic acid) Membranes with Fish-Scale Hierarchical Microstructures and Their Potential Application in Oil-Water Separation

Lingqi Zhong et al.

Summary: Superhydrophobic poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA) hierarchical membranes with excellent oil-removal performance were fabricated using a simple solvent-evaporation-induced precipitation method, which is crucial for mitigating oil pollution. By adjusting preparation parameters, different morphologies of PLLA membranes can be conveniently prepared, leading to significant improvement in water repellency. The PLLA/SiO2 nanocomposite membrane with dense hierarchical micro/nanostructures exhibited a water contact angle greater than 167.1 degrees, showing great potential in oil-water separation.

Examining slit pore widths within plasma-exfoliated graphitic material utilising Barrett-Joyner-Halenda analysis

Rachel L. McLaren et al.

Summary: The report outlines the structure of plasma-exfoliated multilayer graphitic material (MLG) and the use of Barrett-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) analysis to estimate the distance between adjacent stacks of orderly aligned graphitic layers within MLG. It was found that the distance between stacks can vary quite substantially within these materials, correlating with the width of different types of pores. Additionally, the presence of micropores was detected within the material, indicating potential distances of <2 nm between stack separations.
