Multiphysics modelling of photon, mass and heat transfer in coral microenvironments

Shannara Kayleigh Taylor Parkins et al.

Summary: Coral reefs are built by calcifying coral animals that engage in a symbiosis with dinoflagellate microalgae. A multiphysics modeling approach using Monte Carlo simulations has been used to study the light, temperature, and oxygen gradients in coral tissue and skeleton, providing insights into the structure-function mechanisms that shape the microenvironment and ecophysiology of the coral symbiosis in response to environmental change.
