A phenomenological modelling framework for particle emission simulation in a direct-injection gasoline engine

Stefan Frommater et al.

Summary: A phenomenological modelling framework is proposed to simulate engine-out particle emissions of direct-injection gasoline engines based on physical principles. The framework incorporates a multi-zone model with gas-phase reaction kinetics and a stochastic reactor model considering soot formation dynamics, fed by inputs from an engine process simulation. The model accounts for injector deposits, inhomogeneous gaseous mixture preparation, and pyrolysis reactions in different zones.

Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of BEV's environmental benefits for meeting the challenge of ICExit (Internal Combustion Engine Exit)

Ge Zheng et al.

Summary: After comparing the LC emissions of BEVs and ICEVs, it was found that BEVs have lower energy consumption rates compared to non-plug-in HEVs and diesel cars, but their LCCO2 emissions are highly variable and dependent on the power generation mix of specific countries. In countries where thermal power generation, especially coal power generation, is dominant, BEVs' LCCO2 emissions are higher than ICEVs. To achieve lower LCCO2 emissions with BEVs, the average LCCO2 from the power generation mix should be at least around 320 g/kWh.

The Effect of Pure Oxygenated Biofuels on Efficiency and Emissions in a Gasoline Optimised DISI Engine

Tara Larsson et al.

Summary: The article evaluates the impact of different biofuels on engine efficiency and emissions. Oxygenated biofuels show promising results in improving efficiency and reducing pollutants at low loads. However, alcohol fuels lead to increased emissions at mid loads due to decreased volatility.

Multiple spark plugs coupled with pressure sensors: A new approach for knock mechanism study on SI engines

Hao Shi et al.

Summary: Controlled knock combustion is the focus of research for modern spark-ignition engines to improve thermal efficiency and performance. The study found that activating more spark plugs can promote knock intensity, but symmetrically activating four spark plugs can effectively suppress knock. Additionally, advancing spark timing leads to earlier auto-ignition and more energy release during knock.

Dual injection: An effective and efficient technology to use renewable fuels in spark ignition engines

Yuhan Huang et al.

Summary: Dual injection engines, using renewable fuels such as ethanol, methanol and hydrogen, have advantages including greater control flexibility, knock mitigation, engine downsizing, extended lean-burn limits, higher thermal efficiency and reductions of several emission species. Each renewable fuel targets different advantages of dual injection, with alcohol-gasoline dual injection providing anti-knock ability and hydrogen-gasoline dual injection extending lean-burn limits. Dual injection generally demonstrates higher thermal efficiency than single injection and effectively reduces particulate emissions.
