Development and validation of a ferroptosis-related lncRNAs prognosis signature in colon cancer

Hua-Jun Cai et al.

Summary: A study investigated ferroptosis-related lncRNAs and developed a prognostic model for colon adenocarcinoma. Seven ferroptosis-related lncRNAs were identified as independent risk factors for COAD outcomes. Mechanistic analysis revealed their involvement in pathways such as MAPK signaling, mTOR signaling, and glutathione metabolism.

Ferroptosis-related genes are potential prognostic molecular markers for patients with colorectal cancer

Yanliang Liu et al.

Summary: The study identified 13 most significantly related FRGs to the OS of CRC patients and established a prognostic risk signature with 10 genes. The predictive value of the risk scores for OS in CRC patients was confirmed through testing in the validation cohort. Establishing a genomic-clinicopathologic nomogram further improved prediction accuracy and clinical value.

Broadening horizons: the role of ferroptosis in cancer

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent form of regulated cell death driven by excessive lipid peroxidation, and can be induced by various agents to suppress tumor growth while also potentially triggering inflammation-associated immunosuppression. The extent of ferroptosis's impact on tumor biology and its interactions with other signaling pathways are still under investigation.

Iron Metabolism in the Tumor Microenvironment-Implications for Anti-Cancer Immune Response

Alessandro Sacco et al.

Summary: New insights have been gained into the impact of iron metabolism within the tumor microenvironment on cancer development. Iron promotes the production of reactive oxygen species, which can trigger cell death or malignant transformation, affecting tumor immunosurveillance. The potential and controversies of using iron metabolism as a target for anticancer treatments are discussed, particularly in the context of hot and cold tumors.
