Modification of Catalytic Properties of Hollandite Manganese Oxide by Ag Intercalation for Oxidative Acetalization of Ethanol to Diethoxyethane

Jie Ding et al.

Summary: The addition of silver to hollandite manganese oxide (HMO) was found to enhance its catalytic properties for the oxidative acetalization of ethanol to diethoxyethane. The introduction of silver resulted in stronger Lewis acidic sites on HMO and lowered the hydrogen reduction temperature, leading to higher ethanol oxidation activity.

Rational design of copper-based electrocatalysts and electrochemical systems for CO2 reduction: From active sites engineering to mass transfer dynamics

Y. Zhong et al.

Summary: This review focuses on the development of active sites engineering of Cu-based electrocatalysts and mass transfer ability of the cell configuration for CO2 reduction reaction. Strategies to regulate the coordination state and electronic structure of Cu atoms were introduced to optimize the binding strength of key intermediates, while design of new electrode structures and electrocatalytic cells were discussed to tune the mass transfer behavior of CO2RR reagents for improved activity and selectivity. Challenges still exist in optimizing the reaction pathway, with perspectives for future investigation of CO2RR mechanism and strategies for stable higher C2+ production highlighted.

Role of oxygen in copper-based catalysts for carbon dioxide electrochemical reduction

Qiancheng Zhou et al.

Summary: Copper-based electrocatalysts play a crucial role in converting CO2 into hydrocarbons, with the main challenges being low selectivity and high overpotentials required for the carbon dioxide reduction reaction. Recent research has focused on the interaction between copper and oxygen, highlighting the importance of oxygen species in catalytic performance. In-situ characterization has confirmed the presence of subsurface oxygen in copper-based electrodes, essential for efficient CO2RR to C2+ products.

Visualizing highly selective electrochemical CO2 reduction on a molecularly dispersed catalyst

K. Li et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that electrode coated with methoxy group functionalized nickel phthalocyanine catalyst exhibits excellent CO selectivity in the CO2 reduction process, providing a new approach for the practical application of CO2 conversion. Moreover, the number of reaction regions and their gas production rate increase as the applied cathodic potential increases, which is significant for electrode design.
