Silicon carbide detectors for sub-GeV dark matter

Sinead M. Griffin et al.

Summary: Silicon carbide (SiC) is proposed as a novel material for direct detection of sub-GeV dark matter due to its unique properties and tunable sensitivity to various dark matter models. SiC holds much promise as a dark matter detector, combined with its widespread use as an alternative to silicon in other detector technologies.

Detection capability of the Migdal effect for argon and xenon nuclei with position-sensitive gaseous detectors

Kiseki D. Nakamura et al.

Summary: The Migdal effect, which has the potential to enhance sensitivities of direct dark matter searches, has not been experimentally observed yet. Monte Carlo simulations suggest that with a position-sensitive gaseous detector filled with argon or xenon, the Migdal effect could be detected at sufficient rates. Background sources such as intrinsic neutrons and neutron-induced gamma-rays need to be addressed for successful observation of the Migdal effect.

Directional dark matter detection in anisotropic Dirac materials

Ahmet Coskuner et al.

Summary: This paper characterizes the daily modulation rate of dark matter interaction with a Dirac material, finding that in ZrTe5, the daily modulation is a fraction of the total rate determined by the orientation of the material's dielectric tensor with respect to the dark matter wind. This large modulation allows for rapid verification or ruling out of any putative dark matter scattering signal by changing the crystal orientation and observing how the daily modulation pattern changes.
