Cam Osteochondroplasty for Femoroacetabular Impingement Increases Microinstability in Deep Flexion: A Cadaveric Study

K. C. Geoffrey Ng et al.

Summary: The in vitro cadaveric study examined the effects of different surgical stages during cam femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) surgery on hip range of motion, translation, and microinstability. Cam resection increased microinstability by 31% during deep hip flexion, suggesting potential iatrogenic microinstability and the importance of careful cam resection to avoid disruption of the labral seal.

Trunk, pelvis and lower limb walking biomechanics are similarly altered in those with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome regardless of cam morphology size

Trevor N. Savage et al.

Summary: This study found that participants with femoroacetabular impingement syndrome walked with more trunk anterior tilt, less pelvic rise, and less hip abduction and external rotation. They also had lower hip flexion, abduction, and ankle plantarflexion moments. However, no differences in walking biomechanics were found based on cam morphology size.

Pre- and postoperative in silico biomechanics in individuals with cam morphology during stair tasks

Danilo S. Catelli et al.

Summary: In this study, hip biomechanics during stair tasks were compared between pre- and postoperative cam femoroacetabular impingement patients and healthy controls. The results showed that preoperative patients had lower hip abduction during stair ascent, while both pre- and postoperative patients exhibited reduced hip external rotation compared to controls during both ascent and descent. Additionally, postoperative patients showed lower iliacus force and higher gluteus maximus and piriformis forces compared to controls during descent.
