The capacity of grey infrastructure in urban flood management: A comprehensive analysis of grey infrastructure and the green-grey approach

Wenjie Chen et al.

Summary: Urban inundation management needs to consider various forms to address different flood situations, rapid population growth, and climate change. Research on grey infrastructure advantages and disadvantages, such as deep tunnels and pipe networks, is essential for the scientific and efficient application of hybrid green-grey infrastructure. A novel urban flood model was used in a highly urbanized region to evaluate grey infrastructure, with green-grey approaches also compared. Results showed that green-grey infrastructures performed better than grey infrastructures for urban flood reduction, highlighting the importance of suitable combinations for stability and effectiveness in urban flood management.
