Tunable magnetism in ferroelectric α-In2Se3 by hole-doping

Chang Liu et al.

Summary: Hole-doping can induce robust ferromagnetism in 2D ferroelectric alpha-In2Se3, and the material's magnetic properties can be effectively modulated by factors such as doping concentration, strain, and number of layers. Furthermore, strong magnetoelectric coupling is found at the surface of hole-doped multilayer alpha-In2Se3, enabling nonvolatile electric control of magnetization. This research provides a promising approach for designing and searching for 2D multiferroics with potential applications in memory devices and sensors.

Magnetic Order and Symmetry in the 2D Semiconductor CrSBr

Kihong Lee et al.

Summary: The discovery of ferromagnetic ordering in monolayers of CrSBr, as well as the antiferromagnetic coupling in multilayers, highlights the unique magnetic properties of this 2D material. The Neel temperature of CrSBr increases with decreasing layer number, setting it apart from other 2D magnets. These findings introduce CrSBr as an exciting 2D magnetic semiconductor with potential applications in magnetic-electronic coupling and toroidal moments.

Anomalous layer-dependent electronic and piezoelectric properties of 2D GaInS3 nanosheets

Weizhen Chen et al.

Summary: The 2D GaInS3 nanosheets exhibit excellent thermal and structural stability, good oxidation resistance, and tunable electronic properties. They possess robust in-plane piezoelectricity without the commonly observed odd-even effect, attributed to their retention of noncentrosymmetry. The stable piezoelectricity and high carrier mobility of the nanosheets make them promising for applications in nanoelectronic and nanoelectromechanical devices.

Intrinsic spin-dynamical properties of two-dimensional half-metallic FeX2 (X = Cl, Br, I) ferromagnets: Insight from density functional theory calculations

Ram Krishna Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigates the spin transport and dynamical properties of ultrathin 2D ferromagnets, specifically monolayer iron dihalides (FeX2, X = Cl, Br, I), using density functional theory. The materials exhibit inherent half-metallicity with a large spin gap, magnetocrystalline anisotropy, low Gilbert damping, and effective exchange interactions, making them promising for next-generation spintronics applications.

Emerging intrinsic magnetism in two-dimensional materials: theory and applications

Songrui Wei et al.

Summary: The intrinsic magnetism of a range of 2D materials has been experimentally verified, with ferromagnetic orders mostly induced by super exchange interaction and anisotropy deriving from strong spin-orbit coupling of heavy atoms. The relationship between anisotropy and stable spontaneous magnetization is discussed based on spin wave theory and Mermin-Wagner theorem. These materials have potential applications in spintronics, transport property, magnetocaloric effect, magneto-optic effect, catalyst in water-splitting and electrode of supercapacitor.
