The Menopause Transition: Signs, Symptoms, and Management Options

Nanette Santoro et al.

Summary: Menopause transition is a disruptive process that can last for over a decade, affecting a majority of women with features like gradual loss of oocytes, altered responsiveness to gonadal steroids, wide hormonal fluctuations, and irregular menstrual patterns. Recognizing early signs and symptoms of the transition and being prepared to offer treatment to mitigate these symptoms is crucial for clinicians.

Assessing the quality of studies in meta-research: Review/guidelines on the most important quality assessment tools

Claudio Luchini et al.

Summary: Systematic reviews and meta-analyses are crucial in providing higher level evidence for healthcare decisions by pooling data from individual studies. The quality of evidence synthesis depends on the quality of studies included and the methodologically correct process of systematic reviews and meta-analyses. Different tools, such as NOS, STROBE, CONSORT, Jadad scale, RoB2, PRISMA, AMSTAR2, and AMSTAR-PLUS, are commonly used to assess the quality of studies and reviews.

Prevalence of symptoms and associated factors across menopause status in Taiwanese women

Pei-Shan Lee et al.

Summary: The study found that the prevalence of symptoms in Taiwanese women calling a menopause hotline increased with the progress of menopausal stages, with memory loss, fatigue, insomnia, depressed mood, and back pain being the top five reported symptoms. Women with higher education levels, who were single, had no children, were not experiencing the empty-nest phenomenon, were employed, had no chronic diseases, were premenopausal, had never received hormone therapy, and had not visited medical facilities scored the lowest in menopause/midlife symptoms. Postmenopausal women had the most severe symptoms compared to premenopausal and perimenopausal women, highlighting the need for a menopause consultation hotline and support for postmenopausal women to alleviate symptoms.
