Synthesis, characterisation and cytotoxicity of gold microwires for ultra-sensitive biosensor development

Nurul Akmal Che Lah et al.

Summary: A study found that commercial Au microwires exhibited high toxicity against E. coli, which was attributed to the presence of CTAB surfactant rather than the microwires themselves. On the other hand, as-synthesized Au microwires showed non-cytotoxicity even at the maximum viable concentration, offering potential for the development of cytotoxicity-free biosensors in the future.
