Understanding the fragmentation of microplastics into nano-plastics and removal of nano/microplastics from wastewater using membrane, air flotation and nano-ferrofluid processes

Biplob Kumar Pramanik et al.

Summary: The study found that mechanical impellers could fragment MPs into NPs of various sizes. The air flotation process showed efficient removal of certain plastics, and increasing the surfactant dose improved removal efficiency. The removal efficiency of NPs/MPs by the ferrofluid system depended on solution characteristics, and membrane processes were highly effective in removing NPs/MPs fragment particles.

Smart water-based ferrofluid with stable state transition property: Preparation and its application in anionic dye removal

Jingge Chen et al.

Summary: The article introduces a smart water-based ferrofluid that can easily separate magnetic nanoparticles from the solution after adsorbing dyes, showing great potential in wastewater treatment. The ferrofluid exhibits superparamagnetism, high saturation magnetization, and strong colloidal stability, making it efficient in adsorbing dyes in a short time. The experimental data suggest that the ferrofluid follows pseudo-second-order kinetics and the Langmuir isotherm model for adsorption processes.
