Epimerization of isosorbide catalyzed by homogeneous ruthenium-phosphine complexes: A new step towards an industrial process

T. Vanbesien et al.

Summary: The study presents an efficient process for obtaining isoidide by catalytic epimerization of isosorbide using HRu(CO)Cl(PPh3)(3)/Xantphos (1/1) as the organometallic catalyst without hydrogen. The reaction can be carried out in tert-amyl alcohol, without solvent, or in a biphasic system with toluene, showing potential for industrial application. The process demonstrates good activity and stability under different solvent conditions.
