Intermolecular interaction characteristics of the all-carboatomic ring, cyclo[18]carbon: Focusing on molecular adsorption and stacking

Zeyu Liu et al.

Summary: The research found that cyclo[18]carbon has a strong tendency to adsorb small molecules in its condensed phase, where dispersion attraction plays a leading role in binding interactions and the electrostatic effect also influences the configuration of molecular complexes. Additionally, two cyclo[18]carbon molecules can form a stable dimer through pi-pi stacking effect.

Extraction of Furfural and Furfural/5-Hydroxymethylfurfural from Mixed Lignocellulosic Biomass-Derived Feedstocks

Zhaoxing Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a combined in silico and experimental approach was used to investigate the extraction of furfural and HMF in aqueous-organic biphasic systems. The experimental data were found to be in good agreement with the predictions from the COSMO-RS model, and a selective extraction of furfural was demonstrated using an additional extraction step. The molecular nature of preferential furfural extraction was rationalized using COSMO-RS sigma-profile analysis.

Evaluation of nine condensed-phase force fields of the GROMOS, CHARMM, OPLS, AMBER, and OpenFF families against experimental cross-solvation free energies

Sadra Kashefolgheta et al.

Summary: In this study, nine condensed-phase force fields were compared based on their correlation coefficients, root-mean-square errors (RMSEs), and average errors (AVEEs) in predicting experimental salvation free energies. The results showed that GROMOS-2016H66 and OPLS-AA had the highest accuracy, while other force fields exhibited varying levels of accuracy. The differences in performance were statistically significant but not pronounced, showing heterogeneous distribution across the set of compounds within each force field.
