Effective Scalar Potential in Asymptotically Safe Quantum Gravity

Christof Wetterich

Summary: This study computes the effective potential for scalar fields in asymptotically safe quantum gravity, finding that the scaling potential and other scaling functions can generalize the fixed point values of renormalizable couplings, and providing evidence for phenomena such as spontaneous symmetry breaking induced by non-vanishing gauge couplings.

The great emptiness at the beginning of the Universe

C. Wetterich

Summary: The article discusses the possible origin of the universe in the infinite past, suggesting that in the epoch of great emptiness particles are extremely rare and effectively massless, and that there is no physical big bang singularity.
