Microwave-assisted catalytic pyrolysis of apple wood to produce biochar: Co-pyrolysis behavior, pyrolysis kinetics analysis and evaluation of microbial carriers

Changhao Liu et al.

Summary: The study showed that using H3PO4 or K3PO4 as catalysts can improve the efficiency of co-pyrolysis of apple wood, reducing the activation energy and enhancing biochar characteristics. The highest biochar yield was 58.6% when the ratio of H3PO4 to apple wood was 0.5, and the biochar was effective in adsorbing bacteria according to Langmuir model.

Optimisation of CFRP composite recycling process based on energy consumption, kinetic behaviour and thermal degradation mechanism of carbon fibre

S. A. Hadigheh et al.

Summary: This research investigates the kinetic behavior of thermal decomposition of CFRP up to 800 degrees C and reveals that the pyrolysis process consists of two stages, with majority of the polymer matrix removed in the first stage. Lower heating rates lead to higher conversion fractions with lower activation energies. Pyrolysis of the composite remains efficient until 425 degrees C and an oxidation process up to 550 degrees C is required for high quality recycled carbon fibre products.

A potential Mg-enriched biochar fertilizer: Excellent slow-release performance and release mechanism of nutrients

Weichen Luo et al.

Summary: The Mg-enriched biochar fertilizer (MBF) demonstrated excellent slow-release performances of total P and N, with mechanisms involving Mg-P precipitates and 'P-trap' effect of MgO for P-release, as well as confinement effect and electrostatic attraction for N-release. MBF significantly promoted corn growth and enhanced nutrient uptake efficiency, suggesting promising potential for sustainable agriculture with multiple environmental benefits.
