Below the surface of the coffin lid of Neskhonsuennekhy in the Museo Egizio collection

Tiziana Cavaleri et al.

Summary: The multidisciplinary and multi-technical study of a coffin lid dating back to the 26th dynasty involved the use of various techniques including multispectral imaging, MA-XRF, radiography, and micro-sampling analyses to uncover the original decoration, preservation state, and blackened surface characteristics. Through analytical data and real-time macro XRF scanning, the study also shed light on the pigments, glazes, and mineral sources used in ancient Egypt, contributing to a better understanding of the techniques and materials employed in creating the coffin lid.
