One-Pot, Surfactant-Free Synthesis of Gold Nanostars and Evaluation of Their Antibacterial Effects against Propionibacterium acnes

Phat Trong Huynh et al.

Summary: Anisotropic gold nanoparticles, specifically gold nanostars, show significant antibacterial activity and may be a promising alternative to antibiotics for treating conditions like acne vulgaris. The study presents a green and facile method for synthesizing gold nanostars, using ascorbic acid and chitosan, as opposed to the conventional seed-mediated procedure. This alternative method not only simplifies the synthesis process but also reduces the environmental and health risks associated with toxic materials.

A pH-controlled one-pot synthesis of gold nanostars by using a zwitterionic protein hydrolysate (gelatin): an enhanced radiosensitization of cancer cells

Ram Pada Das et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that gelatin can serve as a stabilizing agent for the green synthesis of gold nanoparticles in varying shapes. The shape of the nanoparticles is primarily determined by the concentration of gelatin and the pH of the reaction mixture. Additionally, gelatin may act as a reducing agent at different pH levels to support nanoparticle formation.
