The main purpose of this paper is to study the performance characteristics of homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine for various fuels and additives, as well as to analyze the influence of various operating conditions on HCCI engine's performance. HCCI is an alternate internal combustion technology that is more efficient and cleaner than traditional combustion techniques.
The paper's main purpose is to study the performance characteristics of homogeneous charge compression ignition (HCCI) engine for various fuels and additives. Additionally, the influence of various operating conditions on HCCI engine's performance are also analysed. The demand is faced by engine and car manufacturers to increase fuel efficiency and reduce emission from both, the government and consumers. The HCCI is an alternate internal combustion technology which is more efficient and cleaner than traditional combustion techniques. In this engine, fuel and oxidiser (usually air) are entirely mixed and compressed to the point at which they auto-ignite. It is a new concept of combustion which provides high efficiency and resolves the high level of both NOx and PM emission. The thermal efficiency of conventional diesel (CI) engine is around 30-40%; however, if diesel is used in HCCI engine, it increases thermal efficiency to 40-45%. Natural gas cannot be used as fuel in the conventional engine but can be used in HCCI engine and it helps increase efficiency even above 50%. This paper reviews several works by researchers on the HCCI engine to increase its efficiency and performance and will be beneficial for future research in this field. (c) 2021 Elsevier Ltd.
