Au/TiO2-Catalyzed Benzyl Alcohol Oxidation on Morphologically Precise Anatase Nanoparticles

Akbar Mahdavi-Shakib et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that the morphology of TiO2 supports affects the catalytic activity of Au/TiO2, with the predominantly {101} material showing higher catalytic activity due to the presence of smaller Au particles providing more interfacial area. The differences between the two catalysts are mainly caused by geometric effects rather than electronic differences.

Reconfiguring the band-edge states of photovoltaic perovskites by conjugated organic cations

Jingjing Xue et al.

Summary: The electronic properties of metal-halide perovskites are mainly influenced by the structural and compositional variations in the inorganic B-X framework, while A-site cations primarily stabilize the lattice. The incorporation of pi-conjugated pyrene-containing A-site cations has been shown to extend electronic states, influencing surface band edges and improving carrier dynamics and power conversion efficiencies in perovskites.

One-Electron Water Oxidation Intermediate on TiO2 P25 Probed by Ultrafast Attenuated Total Reflection

Xihan Chen et al.

Summary: Water oxidation is considered a key reaction in solar-to-fuel generation, with initial catalytic intermediates playing a crucial role. In this study, ultrafast in situ infrared spectroscopy was used to examine initial water oxidation intermediates on a TiO2 P25/aqueous interface. The presence of a subsurface Ti-O vibration near 850 cm(-1) suggests a potential link to reactant dynamics and could serve as an infrared reporter for reaction intermediates on titania surfaces.

Summary: Heterogeneous photocatalysis utilizing lead-halide perovskite nanocrystals to capture photons and direct photogenerated holes to a surface bound transition metal Cu-site enables N-N heterocyclization reaction. Sequential inner sphere electron transfer events drive photogenerated holes to Cu-surface site for reaction initiation.

Mechanistic Investigations of an α-Aminoarylation Photoredox Reaction

Bernard G. Stevenson et al.

Summary: While photoredox catalysis has been influential in modern synthetic chemistry, a detailed mechanistic study of alpha-aminoarylation mechanism reveals its complexity and low external quantum yield despite high product yields. The use of transient absorption spectroscopy allowed for identification of productive and unproductive reaction pathways and assignment of rate constants, providing a comprehensive understanding of the reaction. Kinetic modeling showed that the reaction is limited by scattering losses and parasitic absorption rather than individual kinetics steps.

Influence of Ligand Structure on Excited State Surface Chemistry of Lead Sulfide Quantum Dots

Eric R. Kennehan et al.

Summary: This study utilized mid-infrared transient absorption spectroscopy to investigate the influence of ligand structure on surface chemistry changes and charge transfer processes in nanocrystals. It was found that oleate ligands undergo significant changes in binding to nanocrystal surfaces in excitonic excited states, while iodide/mercaptoproprionic acid passivation results in distinct transient vibrational features.

Summary: Lead halide perovskite nanocrystals are strong light absorbers and fast emitters, but their short exciton lifetime limits charge extraction efficiency. Surface-functionalized CsPbBr3 NCs with phenanthrene ligands demonstrate delayed emission and drive photoreduction reactions efficiently, providing a general strategy for applying highly light-absorbing NC materials to photochemical transformations.
