Antagonistic maternal and direct effects of the leptin receptor gene on body weight in pigs

Emma Sole et al.

Summary: Study finds in pigs, maternal genetic effects have negative impacts on offspring weight and growth, possibly due to genetic variations in the leptin receptor gene. This antagonistic relationship is caused by a higher self-maintenance propensity in offspring with certain genetic variations, leading to differences in feed consumption and fatty acid uptake which affect offspring weight at weaning.

Physiological function and application of dietary fiber in pig nutrition: A review

Hao Li et al.

Summary: Dietary fiber, both soluble and insoluble, plays an important role in pig nutrition by improving intestinal health and reproductive performance. Enzymes that degrade fiber can mitigate its negative effects and enhance intestinal health in young pigs. Further research is needed to understand the combined effects of different types of fiber, processing methods, and timing of addition for optimal nutritional value.
