Recent Progresses in Metal-Organic Frameworks Based Core-shell Composites

Shan Dai et al.

Summary: Encapsulation of active guest compounds inside metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) can lead to properties beyond those of bare MOFs and/or guest species. Core-shell composites show better accessibility to pores, optimal diffusion of substrate, and prevent aggregation and runoff of active guests, promoting synergistic effects. Advances in synthetic strategies and potential applications, such as environmental catalysis, gas separation, and sensing, are discussed in this review to promote new generations of MOFs based composites for energy-related applications.

Precise fabrication of single-atom alloy co-catalyst with optimal charge state for enhanced photocatalysis

Yating Pan et al.

Summary: Metal-organic framework (MOF) stabilized bimetallic Pd@Pt nanoparticles with adjustable Pt coordination environment and controlled structure from core-shell to single-atom alloy (SAA) have been fabricated. It was found that Pt surface charge regulation can be achieved by changing its coordination environment and the structure of the Pd@Pt co-catalyst, redistributing the charge between Pd and Pt. The optimized Pd-10@Pt-1/MOF composite, featuring an unprecedented SAA co-catalyst, exhibits exceptionally high photocatalytic hydrogen production activity surpassing its corresponding counterparts.

Encapsulating Copper Nanocrystals into Metal-Organic Frameworks for Cascade Reactions by Photothermal Catalysis

Lin Wang et al.

Summary: In this work, nanocrystals of Cu2O were encapsulated by metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) through a simple strategy, resulting in the successful fabrication of Cu@HKUST-1 composites with uniform morphology and controlled MOF thickness. The integration of Cu NCs properties with MOF advantages helped to create a multifunctional catalyst, exhibiting cooperative catalytic activity and improved recyclability.

2D metal-organic framework-based materials for electrocatalytic, photocatalytic and thermocatalytic applications

Yanpeng Xue et al.

Summary: Ultrathin two-dimensional metal-organic frameworks (2D MOFs) have garnered significant interest in catalytic fields due to their thin thickness, large surface area, accessible active sites, and tunable properties. Research is currently focused on developing more stable and conductive materials to enhance their activity. The superior properties and catalytic performance of 2D MOFs, their hybrids, and derivatives compared to 3D MOFs have been highlighted in electrocatalysis, photocatalysis, and thermocatalysis.
