Selective sensing of adenosine monophosphate (AMP) over adenosine diphosphate (ADP), adenosine triphosphate (ATP), and inorganic phosphates with zinc(ii)-dipicolylamine-containing gold nanoparticles

Lena Reinke et al.

Summary: In this study, mixed monolayer-protected gold nanoparticles aggregated in the presence of nucleotides, with the color of the solution changing from red to purple. The sensitivity was highest for ATP and decreased with ADP and AMP. The aggregation was induced by zinc(ii)-dipicolylamine-derived receptors, with interference from inorganic phosphates. The nanoparticles that were precipitated with inorganic salts redissolved when the salt concentration increased, indicating a selective response to nucleotides, particularly AMP.

Synergistic effect of hydrophobic and hydrogen bonding interaction-driven viologen-pyranine charge-transfer aggregates: adenosine monophosphate recognition

Redhills L. Narendran et al.

Summary: The study systematically designed and synthesized viologen derivatives with hydrophobic dodecyl chains and alkyl carboxylic acid functionalities, which underwent aggregation to varying extent when interacting with pyranine. The length of alkyl carboxylic acid had a greater impact on the nature and morphology of the aggregates. The delicate balance between hydrophobicity and intermolecular hydrogen bonding interaction was instrumental in driving the aggregation of the corresponding charge transfer complexes.
