Relationship between Three-Dimensional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Eyeball Shape and Optic Nerve Head Morphology

Kyoung Min Lee et al.

Summary: The 3-dimensional eyeball shape was found to be associated with the positions of the central retinal vascular trunk and the externally oblique border in the optic nerve head. Factors such as age, eyeball shape, and location of the oblique border were found to influence the position of the central retinal vascular trunk. The study suggests that different modes of eyeball expansion during growth can lead to diverse directionalities of offset between the lamina cribrosa and the Bruch's membrane opening in adults.

Nasal displacement of retinal vessels on the optic disc in glaucoma associated with a nasally angled passage through lamina cribrosa

Yu Sawada et al.

Summary: This study used SD-OCT to investigate the nasal displacement of central retinal vessel (CRV) on the optic nerve head (ONH) in glaucoma and its association with the vessel's path through the lamina cribrosa (LC). The results showed that greater nasal displacement of the CRV was significantly associated with worse glaucomatous visual field defects and a more nasally angled path through the LC.
