Polymeric nanoencapsulation of zaleplon into PLGA nanoparticles for enhanced pharmacokinetics and pharmacological activity

Yusuf A. Haggag et al.

Summary: Zaleplon (ZP) is a sedative and hypnotic drug used for the treatment of insomnia. A study aimed to enhance the oral bioavailability and biological activity of ZP by formulating controlled release nano-vehicles using PLGA. The optimized ZP-PLGA-NPs showed higher plasma GABA levels, longer sedative effects, and a significant improvement in oral drug bioavailability compared to marketed products. Additionally, ZP-NPs displayed higher anticonvulsant activity compared to free drug when administered parenterally.

Formulation and in vitro evaluation of topical nanosponge-based gel containing butenafine for the treatment of fungal skin infection

Mohammed Muqtader Ahmed et al.

Summary: In this study, four formulations of butenafine loaded nanosponges were fabricated and one formulation was optimized based on particle characteristics and drug encapsulation. Physicochemical evaluations confirmed polymer-drug compatibility, drug encapsulation, and non-crystalline state of the drug in spherical nanosponges. The optimized nanosponge formulation showed promising antifungal activity against pathogenic fungal strains.
