Invasive Aortic Valve Endocarditis: Clinical and Tissue Findings From a Prospective Investigation

James C. Witten et al.

Summary: This study aimed to further characterize the extent, location, and stage of invasive aortic valve infective endocarditis (IE), and correlate macroscopic operative findings with microscopic disease patterns and progression. The study found that invasion primarily affected the non-left coronary commissure and prosthetic valves, accompanied by complications such as bacterial infection, abscess, and pseudoaneurysm. Invasion resulted from a confluence of factors and primarily affected the fibrous skeleton of the heart and low-pressure regions.
