Adsorption of ibuprofen, ketoprofen, and paracetamol onto activated carbon prepared from effluent treatment plant sludge of the beverage industry

Angelica F. M. Streit et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of sludge-derived activated carbons for pharmaceuticals adsorption in aqueous media. The ABSAC showed superior adsorption efficiency compared to BSAC, with higher surface area and total pore volume. The adsorbent proved to be highly efficient in removing pharmaceutical compounds in a simulated drug effluent, making it a promising candidate for treating pharmaceutical contaminants in industrial wastewater.

Dual-functional Sites for Selective Adsorption of Mercury and Arsenic ions in [SnS4]4-/MgFe-LDH from Wastewater

Shutang Li et al.

Summary: In this study, [SnS4](4-) clusters and MgFe-based layered double hydroxide (LDH) were assembled to synthesize [SnS4](4-)/LDH composites, which showed excellent removal performance for mercury and arsenic. The composite effectively adsorbed the heavy metals by enlarging surface areas and creating a hierarchical pore channel, and dynamic analysis revealed different adsorption mechanisms. The pseudo-second-order kinetic model was found suitable for both Hg(II) and As(III) adsorption, with promising potential for mercury recycling from the spent materials.
