Connecting far-from-equilibrium hydrodynamics to resummed transport coefficients and attractors

Gabriel S. Denicol et al.

Summary: Studies have shown the potential presence of hydrodynamic attractors in simulations of quark-gluon plasma formed in heavy ion collisions. Using Lagrangian schemes to solve relativistic viscous fluid equations is argued to be useful in characterizing these attractors. Preliminary results in Israel-Stewart theory support this claim, along with a discussion on performing slow-roll expansion in Israel-Stewart theory to define a resummed shear viscosity coefficient dependent on hydrodynamic field gradients.

Relativistic viscous effects on the primordial gravitational waves spectrum

Nahuel Miron-Granese

Summary: This study examines the impact of viscous effects of the primordial plasma on the evolution of the primordial gravitational waves (pGW) spectrum, using a second-order theory framework. Two main contributions are identified: the viscous evolution of pGW and the GW production due to initial spin-2 fluctuations of the fluid. The former effect is characterized by a relative amplitude decrease of about 1 to 10% compared to the GW free evolution spectrum.

Novel Relaxation Time Approximation to the Relativistic Boltzmann Equation

Gabriel S. Rocha et al.

Summary: The widely used relaxation time approximation to the relativistic Boltzmann equation has flaws when energy-dependent relaxation time or general matching conditions are considered. A new approximation is proposed to address these issues while maintaining basic properties of the linearized Boltzmann collision operator. The correction is shown to affect transport coefficients such as bulk viscosity and particle diffusion.

Convergence of hydrodynamic modes: insights from kinetic theory and holography

Michal P. Heller et al.

Summary: This study examines the mechanisms setting the radius of convergence of hydrodynamic dispersion relations in kinetic theory, introducing a new feature compared to holography. It finds that the convergence radius is determined by collisions of hydrodynamic poles and branch points, and proposes using the Implicit Function Theorem to determine complex singularities of the dispersion relation. This provides a practical tool for determining the convergence radius of hydrodynamic dispersion relations.

Relativistic resistive dissipative magnetohydrodynamics from the relaxation time approximation

Ankit Kumar Panda et al.

Summary: In this study, we derived the relativistic resistive dissipative second-order magnetohydrodynamic evolution equations using the Boltzmann equation, extending our previous work that only considered the nonresistive limit. In the first-order, bulk and shear stress are independent of the electromagnetic field, while the diffusion current depends on the electric field. In the second-order, new transport coefficients coupling electromagnetic fields with dissipative quantities appear, which are different from those obtained in the presence of the electromagnetic field through the 14-moment approximation.

Nonexistence and existence of shock profiles in the Bemfica-Disconzi-Noronha model

Heinrich Freistuehler

Summary: This paper studies a four-field hyperbolic PDE model for the pure radiation fluid with viscosity, and shows that there is a dichotomy in the profiles of shock waves for certain choices of parameters. It is found that for specific boundary conditions, all shock waves may have profiles, indicating a different behavior compared to the interior choices of parameters.

Numerical exploration of first-order relativistic hydrodynamics

Alex Pandya et al.

Summary: The first numerical solutions of the causal, stable relativistic Navier-Stokes equations formulated by BDNK are presented for conformal fluid in Minkowski spacetime. Comparisons are made with solutions obtained using the MIS formalism, showing good agreement for low viscosity but differences in regions with large gradients at high viscosity. The transient violation of weak energy condition in BDNK solutions converges towards a hydrodynamic regime, resembling an approach to a universal attractor. Smooth resolution of arbitrarily strong shockwaves is achieved when employing a hydrodynamic frame with maximum characteristic speed of the BDNK system as the speed of light or higher. Uncertainty remains regarding the well-posedness of discontinuous initial data for the BDNK system, particularly in the shock tube problem.

Fully developed relativistic turbulence

Esteban Calzetta

Summary: A simple model was used to study nonlinear phenomena in a real relativistic fluid, focusing on new types of behavior without nonrelativistic equivalents, such as an entropy cascade driven by fluctuations in the theory's tensor degrees of freedom. The von Karman-Howarth equations for this kind of turbulence were derived, along with considerations of correlations corresponding to fully developed turbulence.

Transasymptotics and hydrodynamization of the Fokker-Planck equation for gluons

A. Behtash et al.

Summary: In this study, we investigate the nonlinear transport processes and hydrodynamization of a gluon system undergoing longitudinal boost-invariant expansion. By examining the behavior of solutions at large and small effective Knudsen numbers, we demonstrate different behaviors and the resummation scheme for each moment. The Yang-Mills plasma exhibits non-Newtonian behavior during hydrodynamizing in the UV regime, while in the IR regime, the constitutive relations can be expressed as a multiparameter transseries.
