Highly Selective CO2 Electroreduction to C2H4 Using a Metal-Organic Framework with Dual Active Sites

Xiao-Feng Qiu et al.

Summary: In this study, a metal-organic framework (PcCu-Cu-O) was reported as an electrocatalyst for converting CO2 to C2H4, showing higher efficiency compared to discrete molecular copper-phthalocyanine. In-situ infrared spectroscopy and control experiments indicated that the synergistic effect between the CuPc unit and the CuO4 unit contributes to lowering the energy barrier for C-C dimerization.

Atomically Precise Dinuclear Site Active toward Electrocatalytic CO2 Reduction

Tao Ding et al.

Summary: The study reports a novel strategy to develop atomically precise Ni-2 sites and demonstrates their efficient catalytic performance in the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction. The key O-Ni-2-N-6 structure significantly lowers the energy barrier for CO2 activation, leading to enhanced CO production with >94% Faradaic efficiency. The findings provide insights into the synergy mechanism of dinuclear catalysts and offer a bottom-up synthesis approach for efficient catalytic reactions.

The formation and evolution of carbonate species in CO oxidation over mono-dispersed Fe on graphene

Jiang Zhu et al.

Summary: Iron (Fe) is not only the most abundant metal on Earth, but also a key component of many enzymes that catalyze chemical reactions in organisms. Single atom catalysts (SACs) with mono-dispersed Fe atoms on carbon materials function similarly to enzymes. By conducting first-principles based calculations, researchers explored the CO oxidation reaction over mono-dispersed Fe atoms on graphene (FeGR), demonstrating the potential for FeGR to catalyze CO oxidation reactions at low temperatures. The findings suggest a pathway where carbonate species (CO3) can form and contribute to CO conversion on FeGR, highlighting the role of Fe-based SACs in low temperature CO oxidation.

Dual active sites fabricated through atomic layer deposition of TiO2 on MoS2 nanosheet arrays for highly efficient electroreduction of CO2 to ethanol

Feixuanyu Qi et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated a TiO2/MoS2 nanosheet array that effectively catalyzes the conversion of CO2 to ethanol by adjusting CO binding energy and promoting CO-CO coupling reaction to enhance ethanol yield. This new electrocatalyst exhibits high efficiency and activity for the CO2RR to ethanol, with Mo and Ti dual active sites formed on the interfaces of TiO2 and MoS2 playing a crucial role in the reaction mechanism.
