Quercetin alleviates acute kidney injury by inhibiting ferroptosis

Yue Wang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that quercetin (QCT), a natural flavonoid, inhibited ferroptosis in renal proximal tubular epithelial cells by reducing lipid ROS levels and increasing glutathione (GSH) levels. QCT also ameliorated acute kidney injury induced by ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) or folic acid (FA). Furthermore, RNA-sequence analysis revealed ATF3 as a key factor in QCT's inhibition of ferroptosis. Additionally, QCT inhibited the recruitment of pro-inflammatory macrophages in AKI.

Cellular degradation systems in ferroptosis

Xin Chen et al.

Summary: Ferroptosis is an iron-dependent oxidative cell death driven by lipid peroxidation. Various antioxidant systems play a significant role in preventing ferroptotic death. The cellular degradation systems play a dual role in regulating the ferroptotic response.

A nomogram incorporating functional and tubular damage biomarkers to predict the risk of acute kidney injury for septic patients

Jianchao Ma et al.

Summary: Combining serum cystatin C and urinary N-acetyl-beta-D-glucosaminidase with routine clinical factors may improve the prediction precision of AKI in septic patients in the ICU. The nomogram showed fair discrimination and good calibration in the validation cohort, with good clinical utility according to decision curve analysis.

Ginkgolide A attenuates sepsis-associated kidney damage via upregulating microRNA-25 with NADPH oxidase 4 as the target

Jianzhong Li et al.

Summary: This study found that Ginkgolide A could improve sepsis-induced renal damage by upregulating miR-25, thereby attenuating renal inflammation and apoptosis. Administration of GA inhibited kidney function impairment in LPS-treated mice and reversed the inflammatory factors and cell apoptosis induced by LPS.
