Key roles of the crystal structures of MgO-biochar nanocomposites for enhancing phosphate adsorption

Summary: The synthesis of magnesium oxide (MgO)-biochar (BC) nanocomposites altered the crystal structure of BC, enhancing its phosphate adsorption capacity. Results showed that MgO/KBC exhibited high adsorption rate and maximal adsorption capacity for phosphate, along with good anti-interference capacity.

Integrated ozonation assisted electrocoagulation process for the removal of cyanide from steel industry wastewater

Summary: This study focuses on the removal of cyanide, COD, BOD, and chloride from BOT effluent of the steel industry using an integrated ozonation assisted electrocoagulation method. The combined process showed highly satisfactory removal efficiencies, with optimization of operating conditions leading to reductions below permissible limits for the pollutants. Kinetic and mass transfer studies were conducted to analyze the degradation of pollutants during ozonation, with the results showing promising potential for practical applications.

Photocatalytic degradation of real textile and tannery effluent using biosynthesized magnesium oxide nanoparticles (MgO-NPs), heavy metal adsorption, phytotoxicity, and antimicrobial activity

Summary: An eco-friendly and cost-effective approach was established to cope with real textile and tannery effluents through biosynthesis of highly adsorbent magnesium oxide nanoparticles. The MgO-NPs showed efficient degradation and decolorization of the effluents, as well as high adsorption capacity for tannery heavy metals. Additionally, the treated effluents exhibited decreased toxicity and the biosynthesized MgO-NPs showed antimicrobial activity against pathogenic microbes in a dose-dependent manner.
