There is currently controversy over whether primary occlusal trauma can lead to gingival recession and the results of studies are varied, indicating a need for further research to evaluate its impact.
Currently, there is controversy as to whether primary occlusal trauma can be a factor in the development of gingival recession, opinions are divided on its role in affecting periodontal attachment. Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine whether it can be considered as a cause of gingival recession. The present observational, analytical and descriptive study in which the search criteria were: articles of special interest published in high impact journals, which updated any of the topics mentioned. The results were varied, it is evident that more studies should be carried out using different experimental times to evaluate the influence of occlusal trauma on the buccal surface of the teeth and their proximal surfaces and jointly evaluate other markers.
