Polycyclic Aromatic Hydrocarbons and Potentially Toxic Elements in Soils of the Vicinity of the Bulgarian Antarctic Station St. Kliment Ohridski (Antarctic Peninsula)

Evgeny Abakumov et al.

Summary: The investigation focused on quantitative and qualitative evaluation of 15 priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and Potentially Toxic Elements in soils and cryoconites in Antarctic station territory and its vicinities. The results indicated that PAHs in soils were mainly of natural origin, and the average concentrations of potentially toxic elements were lower compared to previous studies, with most of the soils characterized as unpolluted or practically unpolluted.

The influence of brown and south polar skua on the content of plant nutrient in the soils from the Fildes Peninsula (King George Island, West Antarctica)

Summary: The biogeochemical effect of birds on Antarctic soils can increase nutrient content and alter soil structure. The study suggests that the impact of birds on soils can be diagnosed using additional chemical indices.
